Outside of Work...
This year, I am proudly joining a select group of athletes from around the world on TEAM IMF to support the mission of the IRONMAN Foundation. Together, we share a passion for creating positive, tangible change in our race communities and proving that "Anything Is Possible" as I train for my first 140.6-mile triathlon consisting of a 2.4-mile swim followed by a 112-mile ride and 26.2-mile run through Sacramento on October 23, 2022.
In 2021 alone, the IRONMAN Foundation distributed more than $2.1 million to 1,500 organizations worldwide. $100 could mean bikes for several kids, money that helps keep a community center pool open or money that goes to honoring Gold Star families, or supporting diversity in sport through initiatives like Women For Tri.
Consistently place in the top 5% of my age group in road race distances ranging from 5K to Marathons. Native to Latvia and speak Russian. Certified scuba diver. Love dogs.
My passion for health and wellness began after overcoming my own difficult health journey while working full-time in Corporate when I learned I was a carrier of the faulty BRCA 1 gene mutation, placing me at high risk for Breast, Ovarian, and other cancers following the death of my young cousin from ovarian cancer while her mother (my aunt) was being treated for Breast Cancer at the same hospital at the same time.
While I initially elected to go under a high surveillance program consisting of a bi-annual MRI and Mammogram, that all changed when my breast care doctor died of breast cancer at age 46. Dr. Corgan's death propelled me into action.
Knowing the series of surgeries would be difficult, I turned to running and hired a personal trainer and a running coach to get in the best shape possible ahead of the first four-hour surgery. The series of surgeries were successful with limited side effects, initially.
In 2017, I suffered from a ministroke I struggled to recover from and abruptly quit corporate in 2018 to get my health in order. Through my alternative doctor, I learned I had a leaky gut and several food allergies.
Since 2018, I have overhauled my diet and lifestyle, resulting in a sustained weight loss of 40lb, slashed my cholesterol by 40% without a single pill, and successfully coached myself for my first full marathon and 70.3 Mile IRONMAN Triathlon. Through these experiences, I learned the power of diet and exercise. I went on to earn my certifications in Personal Training, Nutrition, and Wellness through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, in addition to earning my coaching certification through IRONMAN University.
